In 1971 someone decided that there might still be life in the old Commer cast and did some deal with Hammonds. I am not sure which ‘Hammonds’ this Hammonds is but whoever they were they might have chosen some trade colours that blended better!

This strange and rather uninspiring blue, white and pea green version was only available for a short period in 1971. It had very shiny cast wheels although this one has rather dirty ones. There were no features and the trans-o-lite headlights in the red van from the Construction Set were ditched. The rear section is, however, clearly an add-on reminiscent of the set.

Despite its short run prices are not high. Indeed a nice boxed Commer Pick-up or Milk Float can sell for a similar price. There was no illustrated box for this so you’d have had the standard one with no pictures and a written or stamped number at each end.

This is in somewhat worn condition and a bit wobbly, purchased for a collector friend in Germany. It needs the full HAMMONDS stickes on each side but the single H is correct.

An odd model, very hard to find now.
