These are photos of the actual model available. Remember that these toys are around 50 years old! All models advertised are original, not restored or repainted unless I have stated otherwise.
I didn’t even know this existed! Then I saw one for sale as #406S and was intrigued as the yellow colour appeared genuine. Further research and I find some images of this model on various auction sites and selling for extremely high prices except on Toymart where, even with a box, it isn’t any more than a normal #438. Crazy but I guess if no-one knows about it they’re not going to check a price there
So it seems that this is one rare item and, even though mine is a bit bashed paintwork-wise, it is all there, the perspex is intact and the wheels are all OK. The hook’s still there too.
It seems that this came out in late 1962 with the other suspension upgrades to Land Rovers which also meant the new Type 2 cast would be used. Whereas other models kept their S suffix this became #438 very shortly afterwards. It is similar, I suppose to 417S becoming 477 except the yellow paint was not to be seen again. Pity really as it is very cheerful. So this would have been available for just a few months only. I have no idea what it’s worth and will wait for the results of more research before selling it. Do get in touch if you’re interested, though, or have more information.
